The XA | 60/80 wheelset is well suited for riders who are looking for increased aerodynamic efficiency. Using a 60mm front wheel and an 80mm rear wheel provides additional aerodynamic efficiencies while still providing excellent handling.
The Process
We source raw Toray T-700 carbon fiber fabric, impregnate it with a special compound high-heat resistant resin using a 100% automated process to ensure the highest levels of quality control and raw material purity. It then takes shape in our proprietary XA design mold to ensure the highest quality finish.
The finished surface appearance is a beautiful matte black unidirectional carbon fiber layer. Laying up carbon fiber is as much black art as it is science, its a skilled and acquired craft all done by hand. As such, each piece will have a slightly unique finished aesthetic. This is true whether we are talking about our XA™ Wheels, XR™ Hydration Systems or KarbonKages™. Precision-cut die decals are applied to the surface of the XA rim and then clear coated to ensure they are mated and bonded to the rim in the smoothest way possible.
Hub and Spoke Options
Our standard hub and spoke combination is the White Industries T-11 (available Campagnolo or Shimano compatible) laced with Sapim CX Ray spokes and alloy nipples.
The ability to choose your hub, spokes and lacing can be very important, and there can be some very distinct advantages. Additional hub options include Chris King, Power Tap, DT Swiss, as well as spoke options from Wheelsmith and DT Swiss. You can also choose the spoke lacing that you prefer. Need something more trick? Just ask us and we will be happy to lace our rims to virtually any hub and spoke available.
Braking Surface
A proprietary high-heat resistant resin is utilized during rim construction for the braking surfaces that can withstand temperatures in excess of 200 degrees Celsius. This provides rapid heat dissipation and most importantly smooth and effective braking performance. The Brake pad is equally important in the braking process. That is why we provide specially design brake pads with our wheel set, or recommend replacement brake pads like Swiss Stop to insure proper usage, function and quality.
Internal Nipples
Karbon Speed wheels feature an internal nipple design. Not only is the look super sexy, but internal nipple enhances aerodynamic efficiency by removing exposed drag points from the surface profile. A 20 spoke front wheel and 24 hole rear wheel means there are 44 potential negative drag points on the wheel set. Internal nipples remove these exposed negative drag points.
Hand Built in California
Our skilled wheel builders hand-build every Karbon Speed wheel in California and each wheel is made to order. Made to order provides you with the opportunity to upgrade and personalize your set of Karbon Speed wheels to meet your specific needs.
